UPPER HOUSE HOTEL, HONG KONG

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

EDITORIAL · PARTNERSHIPS · BRAND EXPERIENCE

THE PROJECT

A signature event series ‘Up Close’ for The Upper House, Hong Kong, created in partnership with Tatler Hong Kong to bring together interesting people, ideas and conversations within the distinctive setting of the hotel.

Working with the Tatler team and The Upper House, I co-developed the concept and editorial direction for the series - taking the instincts of a magazine editor and translating them into a live brand experience.

The idea was to create more than a traditional hotel event: a programme with a strong editorial point of view, bringing together compelling speakers and culturally relevant subjects in a way that felt natural to The Upper House and its audience.

MY ROLE

My role spanned concept development, editorial direction, programming and partnership, helping to shape both the subjects we explored and the people we brought together.

It drew on the same skills I had developed in editorial - identifying interesting voices, spotting relevant conversations and understanding what would engage an audience - but applied them beyond the page and into a physical experience.

FROM CONTENT TO EXPERIENCE

The series demonstrated how a brand could behave like an editor: not simply communicating with its audience, but curating the people, ideas and conversations it wanted to be associated with.

For The Upper House, this created a reason to engage with the hotel beyond a stay - using programming and cultural conversation to build a deeper relationship with its community.

For me, it was an early expression of an approach that continues to shape my work today: using editorial thinking to create experiences, partnerships and brand worlds that people want to participate in.

APPROACH

Editorial curation — Identifying subjects, speakers and conversations with cultural relevance.

Brand experience — Translating editorial thinking from the page into a live environment.

Partnership — Working collaboratively across Tatler Hong Kong and The Upper House to create a programme with a shared point of view.

Audience & community — Creating experiences that gave people another way to engage with the brand beyond its core hospitality offer.
